Family housing redevelopment begins

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C.- --  A family housing privatization redevelopment commencement ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. here.

Forest City Military Communities will turn over a backhoe to Col. Charlie Moore, 20th Fighter Wing commander, where the current house at 583 White Oak Street will be demolished symbolizing the start to housing redevelopment.

Phase 1A of construction has brought noticeable changes to the scenery here at Shaw AFB. Construction fences have been erected over the last two months, some areas and roads are off limits and areas of dirt and surveying are visible driving near certain areas.

The first phase of construction includes building 192 homes and community amenities and is scheduled for completion in June 2012. Overall, FCMC plans to demolish 680 existing housing units and plans to build 630 homes. The estimated completion date for the project is 2015.
