The USMC Mud Run is a 5.2-mile course with 36 obstacles that each team needs to maneuver requiring team work and loads of determination. The 5.2-mile course is an all-terrain race conducted on trails to included mud holes, walls, trenches, and other challenging obstacles that require swimming, crawling, climbing and jumping.

The mud run is presented by the Greater Columbia Marine Foundation to help raise money to support Marines and their families from the Columbia area who have been wounded or killed while serving on active duty. Profits from the race are also used to support several local college scholarships named after Marines killed serving their country and local events which promote the Marine Corps in the community.

More than 7,000 people participated in this year's mud run. Due to the increasing interest in the mud run, the once annual event is now held twice a year to accommodate everyone who wants to compete.

Participants competed in four person teams in different categories: male, female, co-ed, homeland heroes, military, corporate and JROTC.
