Shaw releases 2011 Economic Impact Statement Published Sept. 30, 2011 By 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Shaw recently published the Economic Impact Statement showing the financial impact Shaw has on the Midlands. The economic impact analysis and statement are designed to provide key information concerning the mission, resources and financial impact Shaw has on the local community. Shaw Air Force Base increased from 7,000 jobs to 8,300 this year, according to the most-recent analysis of Shaw's contributions to the Midlands economy. But even during Shaw's fiscal year 2009, the most-recent period for which complete statistics are available, the base also helped create up to 3,000 jobs in the region, analysts said. For fiscal year 2009, which ended Sept. 30, 2009, the installation's various payrolls added up to $282,982,457 for all personnel, $251 million to more than 6,600 uniformed military, and about $30 million to all categories of civilian workers on the base. Contracts of all types contributed another $60 million to the region's economic activity. Procurement, all the services and supplies the base needed, accounted for $60 million more, mostly to local businesses. The latest economic impact analysis includes diverse statistics about Shaw, its workforce and spending. It has facts ranging from the square footage of all installation buildings, to statistics of the 20th Fighter Wing's F-16CJ Fighting Falcons, to numbers of employees; to the dollar value of contracts is available in the two-page document.
