The Combined Federal Campaign is underway here, and is a third of the way through its nine-week run.

The CFC supports hundreds of charities through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient and effective in providing all Federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

"Today, across our nation and abroad, many individuals and families are in need of assistance," said Col. Charlie Moore, 20th Fighter Wing commander. "Giving to the CFC can make a difference in their lives by offering humanitarian relief, providing health education, supporting organizations looking to cure some of our most devastating diseases or simply by providing support to those who are struggling in today's economic environment."

The campaign gives to thousands of charities throughout the world. Seventy-three percent are national, 13 percent local and eight percent international.

There are 72 local charities that Team Shaw members can give to in the 11 county area surrounding the installation.

"Giving to the CFC is beneficial, both to those receiving and giving," Capt. David Fischer, Team Shaw CFC project officer. "It allows you to make a difference. It's especially rewarding when you can give to a charity that meets your interest."

Last year Shaw raised $155,500 for the CFC, and this year the goal has been raised to $165,000.

"I'm very confident that we will meet and easily exceed our CFC goal," said Captain Fischer. "We will accomplish this through teamwork down to the lowest level."

An easy way to give to the charity is through payroll deduction.

To receive tax credit for giving to the campaign, those who give need to be sure to keep their pink pledge slip, W-2 and bank statements.

Those who are interested in giving to the CFC can go through one of the 34 unit representatives on Shaw, added the captain. If they are unsure of who their unit representative is they can either contact him at 895-2363 or Master Sgt. Matthew Honjo at 895-2381.
