Shaw family member earns scholarship Published Oct. 13, 2010 By Misty Hatfield 20th Force Support Squadron marketing director SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The 2010 Club Membership Scholarship program winners were recently selected and of the two chosen from Air Combat Command, one represented Shaw Air Force Base. Rudi Georgia- Anne Fate, daughter of Chief Master Sgt. Lefford Fate, 20th Fighter Wing command chief, was one of twenty-five winners selected from the 130 entries submitted by installations from across the country. She will receive a $1,000 scholarship funded by the Air Force Services Agency and Chase Bank (no federal endorsement of sponsor intended). "Winning this scholarship is such an honor, not only for me, but for my family as well," said Fate. Fate submitted a 500-word essay on "What does it mean to be part of the Air Force Family?" Fate's father said he is tremendously proud of his daughter, citing not only her strong academic skills but her athletic strengths as well. As a Crestwood High School graduate, Fate was an outstanding track star, winning WLTX Athlete of the Year honors, as well Region III Athlete of the Year accolades. She received a full scholarship to Campbell University where she is currently a freshman. "I'm pretty proud of Rudi," said Chief Fate.
