A 15-year-old male has been apprehended and charged with a string of robberies at the fitness center here from June 18 through 22.

The security cameras at the facility and timely reporting of the incidents lead to the capture of the perpetrator, said Tech. Sgt. Julie Smith 20th Force Support Squadron fitness center noncommissioned officer-in-charge.

The juvenile was not a military family member, she added.

Security cameras showed him coming in through the side door of the facility and going into the weight room, said 1st Lt. Jordan Smith, 20th FSS sustainment services flight commander. There he would hang around to scan the area and then steal the users' wallet.

The perpetrator was also stealing valuables from unlocked lockers in the male locker room, added Sergeant Smith.

To help avoid incidents such as this, the fitness center maintains a policy of 100-percent identification check, said Sergeant Smith. However, sometimes not everyone gets checked, so patrons should keep an eye out for those who look suspicious.

Even though the facility keeps constant video surveillance, Sergeant Smith would like patrons to keep their valuables secured and to only use the cubbies for non-valuables.

"The fitness center staff did an excellent job in taking care of this situation," said Lieutenant Smith.

Sergeant Smith would also like to remind everyone that everything is caught on camera and that Security Forces always gets their person.
