Airmen learn the safe way of having fun Published June 22, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Victoria Secrist 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Airmen in all Shaw Air Force Base units are briefed weekly on safety practices in preparation for weekend breaks. In South Carolina, the hot and sunny weather is both a blessing and a curse. While people are able to enjoy the outdoors, sunburns and dehydration are common hazards. A less common but more deadly leisure-time threat is people driving under the influence of alcohol, or DUIs. Base leadership emphasizes the Wingman concept of looking out for each other to make good choices in order to help prevent DUIs and other safety mishaps.
