The 20th Force Support Squadron Sustainment Flight hosted its first Iron Chef competition at the dining facility here on May 11.

Senior Master Sgt. Andre Tolliver and Senior Airman Elisabeth McClean were on the first team, competing with Staff Sgts. Willie Baldwin and Roy Jones, on the second team.

The judges were Maj. Kenneth Marshall, Capt. Matt Hart, Master Sgt. William Hardee and Airman 1st Class Chanitria Garnett, all from the 20th FSS.

The purpose of this competition was to highlight the culinary skills in the dining facility, showing that their expertise goes beyond mass production, said Master Sgt. Ron Calandra, 20th FSS Sustainment Flight food services supervisor.

"This is what my folks do best," said Captain Hart, "taking care of the rest of the base."

The teams were tasked with the challenge to produce one entrée and one appetizer using what was provided in the kitchen and the surprise ingredient of tofu. The products were judged on the categories of taste, presentation, creativity and incorporation on a scale of one to five.

Sergeant Tolliver and Airman McClean created a vegetable soup with tofu, and a curry chicken with an apple slice and rice, winning the competition with 139 points.

Sergeants Baldwin and Jones created a barbeque chicken and kiwi appetizer, and chicken and rice entrée that followed close behind with 125 points.

"The competition was fantastic," said Major Marshall. "It brought out the culinary experience from food services and highlighted what we do on a daily basis. It brought out the competition between the cooks. This was the first Iron Chef competition and surely won't be the last."
