Shaw's summer sports, softball and golf, are scheduled to kick off this month as the winter intramural sports come to an end with the volleyball championship.

Golf has its first match on May 11 and softball has its first game on May 24.

Softball has about 20 squadrons competing and golf has about 11 squadrons involved in summer intramurals this year, according to Charlie Glover, 20th Force Support Squadron fitness and sports director.

Softball games will be held at the field off of Patrol Road and golf matches will be held at the Carolina Lakes golf course.

The fitness center offers several different intramural sports throughout the year, said Glover. Some of those sports include basketball, racquetball, tennis, football and bowling.

"I've been involved with intramural sports my entire Air Force career," said Master Sgt. John Hendrix, 20th Comptroller Squadron first sergeant. "I've been fortunate enough to play basketball, football, softball, and volleyball. I believe intramural sports promote teamwork and camaraderie. As an added benefit, playing intramural sports is a great stress reliever."

Those interested in joining their squadron's intramural team can see their squadron's sports representative or first sergeant. To find out more information about what the fitness center offers, call 895-2789.
