Changeover from heating to cooling begins Published April 7, 2010 By 2nd Lt. Greg J. Barry 20th Civil Engineering Squadron SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- According to 20th Fighter Wing policy, the cooling season begins when the daily high reaches 75° dry bulb temperature for four consecutive days. The 20th Civil Engineering Squadron is hard at work executing the changeover from heating to cooling as we speak. For most of our base facilities, operations will continue unhindered, and the change will go largely unnoticed. However, some locations may experience cooling issues or leaks as these systems are activated for the first time this year. There are a few things that facility managers and dormitory residents can do to help find and fix any issues. Dormitory residents can start by replacing their air filter with a new one provided by the dorm managers, ensuring that the air conditioner is turned to the "on" position, and checking to see if the fan runs at all marked speeds on the controller. Residents of dorms 406 and 418 should also ensure that the light switch inside the A/C unit is in the "on" position. If any problems arise, contact the dormitory managers at 895-5627 or 895-5628. For any leaks or other major issues, residents and facility managers should call CE Customer Service at 895-9653.
