Shaw hosts NSSA competition Published March 24, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Daniel Phelps 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Approximately 25 shooters from around the country competed in the Afterburner, an annual National Skeet Shooting Association competition held at the skeet and trap range here March 19-21. Shooters were able to compete in a doubles event where competitors would have two clay targets every time they shoot; a 12 gauge event, a 28 gauge event, a 20 gauge event and a 410 gauge event , said Eugene Naylor, the skeet range manager. The 20 gauge event winner was Sam Tupper from Camden, S.C. Curt Krruser, a Beaufort, S.C. resident, was the winner of the doubles event, the 12 gauge event, the 28 gauge event, the 410 gauge event and the overall Afterburner champion. All the scores from the event were submitted to the National Skeet Shooting Association in San Antonio, Texas and will be posted in the Skeet Shooting Review magazine, added Naylor. "I've competed at this Afterburner since April of '07," said Percy Lewis, a competitor and retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt. from Sumter, S.C. "This is just the kick-off season for us for skeet shooting."
