The commissary here is currently in the first phase of a 22-phase program to completely renovate the facility.

The first phase consists of transitional work, such as plumbing and electrical work behind the scenes, explained Larry Weathers, Shaw AFB commissary store director. Once the background work is finished, customers will start seeing the progress.

The changes in the commissary will benefit customers by creating a better shopping environment, giving it state of the art equipment, and making it an eco-friendly environment, added Weathers.

"It's a small commissary compared to other commissaries I've been to," said Senior Airman David Minor, 20th Fighter Wing photographer. "I'd like to see renovations that make it easier to get around and provide more options for dinner."

After the commissary is complete, there will be new products offered, since the renovations will allow for more room, Weathers noted.

The biggest issue shoppers will face during renovations will be the displacement of products, added Weathers. Displaced products will be temporarily located in the warehouse so that customers can still access them.

The commissary renovations are expected to be completed by January 2011.
