Ops group commander surpasses 3,000 flying hours

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. --  Colonel David Van der Veer, Jr., 20th Operations Group commander, reached a milestone in his career when he surpassed 3,000 hours of flight Monday. As the 20th OG commander, Colonel Van der Veer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of three F-16 fighter squadrons and an operations support squadron.

In that capacity, he plans, organizes and oversees more than 375 Airmen, while ensuring each squadron is ready to deploy worldwide and execute national policy.
