Family Advocacy Program offers new classes Published Dec. 16, 2009 By Staff Sgt. John Gordinier 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Beginning in 2010, the Family Advocacy Program here will offer two new classes for military families: "Seven Highly Effective Lessons for Cool Moms and Awesome Dads" and, "Within Our Reach: Couple Relationship Enhancement Course." "Both classes are free," exclaimed Patti Busser, 20th Medical Operations Squadron family advocacy outreach manager. "The only requirement is to call FAP to pre-register at 895-6091 or 895-6201." The parents' course offers seven sessions on a variety of parenting topics, she said. The topics are: "Common Sense Parenting," "Angry Kids, Frustrated Parents," "Dealing with Your Kid's Seven Biggest Troubles," "Love you Forever," "Who's Really in Charge," "Producing Pearls," "Correcting Misbehavior While Keeping the Peace," "Preventing Preventable Problems." Parents do not have to attend all seven sessions, Ms. Busser added. They can pick the topics that are most appropriate for their family. "We will offer the series three times throughout 2010 in hopes that parents who are out of the area can catch the series later in the year," Ms. Busser said. "Call the FAP for dates and times." "FAP is also offering 'Within Our Reach: Couple Relationship Enhancement Course,'" she added. "This is a four session course and participants need to attend all four sessions." The course is produced by the creators of the PREP relationship enhancement course, informed Ms. Busser. However, it has been updated with fewer lectures and more activities. The sessions are fast paced and active. The class is free to all military couples. "We are offering two series at noon and two evening series to accommodate schedules as best as we can," she said. "Each class will last approximately one-and-a-half hours." For more information, class dates, and to sign up for a class, call the FAP at 895-6201.
