Slim-Fast product recall alert Published Dec. 10, 2009 20th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Public Health Flight SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Unilever United States, Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is conducting a nationwide voluntary recall of all Slim-Fast ready-to-drink products that are in cans, due to the possibility of contamination with Bacillus cereus. Contamination of food products by Bacillus cereus bacteria can lead to foodborne illness. Symptoms of illness include watery diarrhea, nausea, abdominal cramping and stomach pain appearing within 6 to 15 hours of digesting contaminated food or nausea and vomiting, which occurs within 30 minutes to 6 hours after digesting contaminated food. The probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote. The recall involves all Slim-Fast RTD products in 11-ounce or 325-mL cans, regardless of flavor, best by date, or lot code. No other Slim-Fast products are affected by this recall. No Slim-Fast powdered shakes, meal bars, or snack bars are affected by this recall. The Shaw commissary and base exchange have already pulled the products from the shelf. No other facilities carried this product on base.
