Airmens' voices heard by Rising IV Published Nov. 10, 2009 By Senior Airman Matt Davis 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- From airman basic to senior airman, there is a group on base where your voice can be heard. The group is the Rising IV, and they are currently looking for max participation from all Shaw Airmen. "The Rising IV is a private organization lead by the Airmen of Shaw Air Force Base. Many Airmen either have not heard of the Rising IV, or have a negative opinion of the Rising IV due to past experiences, "said Airman 1st Class Latrenta Patterson, secretary of the Shaw AFB Rising IV. "The new Rising IV council wants to change that opinion. We want every Airman on base to know and understand who and what the Rising IV is, and what we stand for. Our goal is to focus on the development of Airmen and leadership." "We are networking with other private organizations on base to make our presence known," said Airman 1st Class Terrell Singleton, president of the Shaw AFB Rising IV. "We find out what we need to do and go do it." The Rising IV committee holds different events and volunteer opportunities for Airmen to participate in. Airmen can also sit down with 20th Fighter Wing leadership to voice concerns and suggest changes for Shaw's newest enlisted group. And they have fun. "On Nov. 13, 2009, we are having a free bowling tournament," remarked Airman Patterson. "This tournament will be at the Shaw bowling alley and is going to be free for the entire base. All that we ask is for those attending to donate items to the Young Adult Ministries' 'Give a Kid a Christmas Box' project or to bring in a canned food item for those in need during the holidays. "Everyone will be able to bowl three games for free and this includes shoe rental," she said. "This event will be a first-come, first-serve event and the squadron with the most donations will win a free burger burn."
