New program recycles, reuses computer peripherals Published Nov. 2, 2009 By Staff Sgt. John Gordinier 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The 20th Mission Support Group here started a new program Nov. 2, Computer Peripheral Reuse/Recycle Program, which provides a central location to reuse or recycle computer peripherals such as mice, keyboards, speakers and monitors. "The Shaw initiative will save money on many items we normally turn-in to DRMO or waste stream that could be used to benefit units here," said Cynthia Clarke, 20th Communications Squadron information technology asset manager. The computer hardware peripheral depot is located in the ITAM Bay in Building 160 and the hours of operation are from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, said Lt. Col. Brian Wilkey, 20th CS commander. Any user may turn in or pick up peripherals as needed and no paperwork is required, Colonel Wilkey added. Items must be in new or like-new condition and all users must check in at the ITAM office in Building 160 prior to picking up or dropping off items. All items will be inspected by an information technology equipment custodian prior to drop off. The following items are authorized: optical mice (no roller balls); keyboards; speakers and liquid crystal diode flat screen monitors. "Monitors are not tracked on an equipment inventory, however, ITECs are required by Air Force instruction to track monitors within their unit," Colonel Wilkey explained. "Therefore, you must notify your ITEC whenever you add or remove a monitor from your section."
