Flu vaccinations coming soon

In the spring of 2009, a novel H1N1 virus emerged.

The novel H1N1 virus currently is responsible for 99 percent of the flu cases in the United States.

As we head into fall, seasonal flu cases will start to increase. The best way to prevent the seasonal flu is to get immunized each year. The 20th Medical Group expects to get its first large shipment of the flu vaccination in early October, with a second shipment  to follow a week or two later.

Plans are underway to immunize all active duty with the first shipment, and then open vaccination up to contractors and dependents. In addition to the seasonal flu vaccine, an H1N1 vaccine is projected to be available Nov. 1.

It is recommended that individuals receive both the seasonal and the H1N1 vaccine. The 20th MDG has not received projected arrival dates for the H1N1 vaccine yet. When they do, procedures will be publicized for receiving your vaccination.

There may be civilian services delivering flu shot clinics in the local community as well. Should you receive a flu vaccine outside of the Shaw Medical Facility, please stop by the Immunizations Clinic so that we can update your electronic shot record.
