Shaw's upcoming events: Viper Challenge, appreciation day, safety day Published Sept. 25, 2009 By Staff Sgt. John Gordinier 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Airmen are encouraged to attend events coming up this week to include Shaw's Viper Challenge, Junior Enlisted Appreciation Day and 20th Fighter Wing Safety Day. The Viper Challenge occurs Sept. 29. Anyone assigned to Shaw as active duty, retiree, Department of Defense civilian or spouses of any of the above whose sponsor is attached to a unit may participate. Personnel must participate with their unit (or their spouse) and be approved to represent the squadron by the squadron commander. No one under 18 years of age will be eligible to participate. All events are free except golf, bowling and skeet. Each participant must be entered by his/her squadron or sponsor's squadron. Contact your unit representative, first sergeant, or the fitness center staff for more information. Junior Enlisted Appreciation Day also takes place Sept. 29, which is sponsored by the Team Shaw Top Three Council. The event starts at 11 a.m. behind the Palmetto Chapel, and will include free food, drinks, car and motorcycle show, a dance contest and open swimming at the Woodland Pool for Junior Enlisted family members. Additionally, there will be a drawing for a Playstation 3 Slim. Tickets will be handed out at event with no purchase necessary. For more information, contact Master Sgt. Bridgette Etling at 895-1845 or Senior Master Sgt. Pete Smith at 895-8600. The kickoff for the 20th Fighter Wing Safety Day occurs Sept. 30 at 7:30 a.m. in Hangar 1200. All 20th FW personnel are required to attend. This event will be immediately followed by the 20th FW formation run. Uniform for the safety meeting is Air Force physical training gear for all 20th FW members participating and not participating.
