Doors are scheduled to open at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, for the 62nd Air Force Anniversary Ball here at the Carolina Skies Club.

Heavy hors d'oeuvres (also known as "finger food") featuring bacon-wrapped scallops, shrimp and much more will be served along with cocktails during social hour, followed by remarks from Col. Joseph Guastella, 20th Fighter Wing commander.

"It is the 20th FW's privilege and honor to host the Air Force Ball, marking the 62nd anniversary of our beloved Service," said Colonel Guastella. "By getting together this way, we can acknowledge and salute the brave men and women who have served before us and enabled the great Air Force we have today."

The evening will also consist of a cake-cutting, toasts and dancing to live music provided by The Company Band. With horns on the left, vocalists on the right and a rhythm section holding it together, The Company Band claims to play an "eclectic blend of neo-soul, R&B, pop and jazz."

According to Yulanda Richardson, Child Development Center director, childcare will be available for a reduced cost of $3 per hour to active duty and department of defense civilians Sept. 12 from 6:30 to 11 p.m. All children must have current shot records.

"Because it's a special function we try to accommodate our military families," said Richardson. "Parents should visit the CDC to complete paperwork and make a $3 deposit no later than Sept. 8."

Attire is mess dress/semi-formal uniform for military, and formal for civilians. However, after the last formal segment of the ball, organizers say a bell-ringing will signify a transition during which military women may change into formal civilian attire, and men may remove their mess dress jackets for an evening of dancing.

"I invite every Airman to consider attending," said Colonel Guastella. "Whether you are retired, active, Guard or Reserve, you're part of the world's best Air Force. It won't be a traditional sit down dinner, but instead a venue to mingle, enjoy great food, great company and great music. Let's come together Sept. 12, celebrate our heritage, and have some fun!"

Tickets may be purchased from each unit's point of contact and cost $15 for E-4 and below, $25 for E-5 and above and civilians, and $30 for officers.
