Senior Airman Justin Carson, 20th Fighter Wing Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape specialist, instructed 20th FW pilots on different water survival techniques they could use in a real-world survival situation.

The pilots learned from many different training scenarios like open ocean survival and how to disentangle themselves from a parachute while submerged in water.

This training could potentially save these pilot's lives one day if found in a survival situation. It's the SERE specialist's job to maintain the aircrew's readiness on personnel recovery and evading capture.

Lake Wateree was the site for the water survival training and Shaw Air Force Base Wateree Staff helped with providing an area for this event.

Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape provides a very important asset to today's Air Force and its operations. This training helps keep all Airmen prepared to meet the elements in any situation. Water survival is essential for Shaw pilots to maintain operational readiness.
