Country singer Gary Bonnet to visit Shaw Published July 23, 2009 By Cathalena Burch The Arizona Daily Star SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Shaw and the Sumter community have the opportunity to meet Nashville's new up-and-coming country music star, Gary Bonnett. Bonnett, a member of the Arizona Air National Guard, is currently on tour promoting the release of his new CD, "The Long Road Home." At the age of 16, Gary picked up his first guitar and hasn't looked back since. After a couple of years honing his craft and graduating from Marshall University, Gary started into the song writing universe. "I always want to put songs out that people can relate to," says Bonett. And he does. Bonnett balances a hell-raising spirit of "$50 and a Flask of Crown" with touching declarations of love including the standout ballad, "Without You" and the up-tempo gospel-inclined, "I'm A Christian." On "The Long Road Home," rated three and a half stars by Country Weekly, Bonnett introduces himself with such authority that it makes you wonder not if Nashville and the rest of the world will take notice but when. The event will be at the Carolina Skies Club for his meet-and-greet lunch with Shaw's Airmen from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30. He will perform again at 8 p.m. at Pure Country, located adjacent to the Sumter Mall, to support Air Force members as his makes his way to the big time.
