Shaw Web site transitions to a new look Published July 15, 2009 By Tech. Sgt. Vincent A. Mouzon 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Shaw's Web site has a new look. This change follows the new design of AF.mil, which went live a few months ago. The new site is more user-friendly, with pages centered in order to fit any size monitor. The new layout also has wider columns and enables the use of larger images. You will also notice the slide show viewer that rotates images and top stories on the Web site. The rollover navigation links along the top of the page allow viewers to quickly navigate Shaw's site map. Categories have been added to every area of the site and are extensively used to allow viewers to find related information faster. News stories have also had a few changes to them. Each story now features comments unique to the story right beneath it, so users can share their input or opinions regarding topics on the site. Stories are marked with the number of comments they have on the home page. Perhaps the most exciting new capabilities viewers have are the video and audio players. These players will be available to every site, not just AF.mil. The video tab on the home page has thumbnails that, when clicked on, pop up a new window that allows viewers to move wherever desired. If you are interested in more videos there is a video gallery much like the photo gallery you may be familiar with already. The video and photo gallery are also arranged into categories that allow viewers to find media they want faster. The photo gallery also features slideshows. An example of slideshows to come to Shaw can be seen at AF.mil. Another new tool is the spotlight. This area allows the site to advertise, or "spotlight" a specific event, item or page. Up to five different spotlights can be rotated at one time. The sites belonging to the major commands are scheduled to complete their migrations by the end of July. Air Education and Training Command and Headquarters Air Force are scheduled to complete theirs in August along with the field-operating agencies, direct-reporting units and specialty sites. Air Force Reserve Command units are split between July and August. The Air National Guard is split between August and September. The band sites are scheduled to migrate in September.
