The Air Force recently announced the details for their Fiscal 2010 Force Structure realignment, supported by the president's fiscal budget; it summarizes civilian and military personnel changes, as well as the reassignment of aircraft at bases for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to Air Force leadership, the adjustments will provide unmatched global vigilance, reach and power, which allows USAF to complete its mission of "fly, fight, and win, in space and cyberspace," for the here and now, as well as the future, with resources available.

Shaw has approximately 6,000 personnel as is, and will now have an increase of 111 military and 11 civilian positions. Of the 111 military positions, 109 of those will be for the 20th Fighter Wing, in result of the increased manning for aircraft maintenance.

"The force structure announcement reflects our best effort to meet the expanding Air Force mission areas and growing joint demands," said Gen. Norton Schwartz, the Air Force chief of staff.

However, the announcement does not include a plan for fiscal year 2011 and beyond.

"We've made some hard choices," General Schwartz said. "However, we believe this is the best overall design to meet America's national security needs and support to the joint fight."

This announcement specifies the force structure changes that will be experienced by the total force: Air Force active duty, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve. Putting this plan to action will only happen upon the completion of appropriate environmental analyses.
