TMO closes for training, regionalization Published March 7, 2008 By Staff Sgt. John Gordinier 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Shaw's Traffic Management Office or TMO, personal property shipping office is closed March 24 and 25 to receive initial training on regionalization interface systems and functions. In order to keep up with the on-going Air Force personal property regionalization effort, Shaw's personal property function is regionalizing with the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office-Northeast (JPPSO-NE) located in Chelmsford, Mass. According to Mr. Rease Mims, Shaw's traffic management officer, the regionalization effort does not mean that the entire base personal property function is going away; in fact, it is becoming more customer-focused. The Air Force personal property regionalization concept retains the front-office functions, such as customer counseling and quality assurance inspections, at the local transportation office, Mr. Mims said. This results in more assistance to the customer when it is most needed. The JPPSO-NE / Shaw AFB TMO team will be better positioned to focus attention on providing quality customer service, said Mr. Russell DePietro, JPPSO-NE deputy director. Additionally, TMO quality assurance inspectors will be more readily available to assist during the delivery of service of a member's property. "The TMO goal has always been to provide unblemished service; however, time-consuming back-office functions sometimes have gotten in the way of meeting customers' expectations," Mr. DePietro said. "Now, TMO attention and concerns are focused directly on the customer." While the local traffic management office will continue to provide customer counseling and quality assurance inspections, back-office functions will be turned over to JPPSO-NE team members. The JPPSO-NE staff is dedicated to handle all back-office functions, such as booking personal property shipment and storage, scheduling personal property delivery and storage and arranging all payments associated with the transportation and storage of personal property. Additionally, JPPSO-NE has a toll-free customer service number available so customers can inquire about shipment status and to address any additional movement concerns that may arise during transition. Customers can call (800) 235-7776. The team is now armed better to assist with all personal property movement needs. In addition, JPPSO-NE has been able to harness and deploy some of the latest technology tools to assist customers with personal property movement needs, Mr. DePietro said. Doing so will aid the customer throughout the personal property movement process. "The JPPSO-NE / Shaw AFB TMO team will continue to implement and develop some of the personal property industry's most cutting-edge technology while striving for superior customer service throughout the entire personal property movement process," Mr. DePietro said.
