Environmental awareness is at every Airman's fingertips thanks to a new Environment, Safety and Occupational Health management system.

Just a click away, the new ESOH Web site allows Airmen to access required training and many other resources.

"ACC, USAFE, PACAF and AETC have joined together to use this tool to supplement the Environmental Management System," said Heyward Singleton, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental oversight element chief.

The required, one-time training is EMS Awareness Level Training.

Many members at Shaw may have already completed this training. However, there was no way to track it before, Mr. Singleton said. The new Web site allows the training to be tracked, providing 100 percent accountability.

The training takes an average of 30 minutes. In that time, members learn about the Green Procurement Program.

"We're trying to get into the culture of: environmental awareness is everybody's business," Mr. Singleton said. "Eventually, civilians, contractors and military members will have to complete the EMS training before working on Shaw."

"And it's not just about EMS," said Samuel Johnson, 20th Civil Engineering Environmental quality manager. "There are 40-50 training modules on the site."

The Web site creates a training plan specifically for a member based on information the member enters. All of the member's training is transferable, so the member will still have access if they PCS. The member may also change their training plan at any time. The Web site will eventually be used Department of Defense-wide, Mr. Singleton said.

Government purchase cardholder training is another commonly-needed training module offered on the Web site. Also, when a certificate is printed, it provides all completed training on one certificate, Mr. Johnson said

To get started, members should log on to www.esohtn.com and follow the registration steps. The initial registration password for members to log on is: esohtn. After completing the required information, members will be prompted to create a new password.

"Everyone wants a safe and healthy working environment, and we all want to enjoy clean air, clean water and clean land with our families. ESOH Training Network affords all personnel on Shaw AFB the opportunity to play their part in protecting our precious natural resources," Mr. Singleton said. "The awareness gained from training modules such as the EMS Awareness Level Training equips our personnel to be good stewards of the environment we all share."
