The traffic management office is upgrading to a new method of moving service members and their families to their new location through regionalization.

There are three main Joint Personal Property Shipping Offices for Air Force-wide personal property: JPPSO-Colorado Springs, JPPSO-San Antonio and JPPSO-Northeast.

Beginning in April, JPPSO-NE will handle Shaw's personal property services of: booking personal property shipments, storage, scheduling personal property delivery and storage, and arranging all payments associated with the transportation and storage of personal property.

The main functions at the Shaw office will be counseling members and providing inspection service, said Tech. Sgt. Michael McNey, 20th Logistic Readiness Squadron Personal Property NCOIC.

An Airman receiving PCS orders should schedule a counseling session with TMO to start the process.

This is the same step members have always taken when they have received orders. The difference is; with JPPSO taking on the "back shop" duties of booking shipments, managing bills and arranging temporary storage, the local TMO office will now have more time to focus on customer service, Sergeant McNey said.

Once TMO enters the member's information into the JPPSO database, requests are immediately sent out to local carriers to book the shipment. Members will receive an e-mail with the name and contact information of the chosen carrier, usually within 24 hours, said Russell DePietro, JPPSO-NE deputy director.

After a shipment is booked, members can call a toll-free number: 1-800-235-7776, to check the status of their shipment. They will also receive updates via automated email and telephone. The Air Force Move Web site; http://afmove.hq.af.mil, also provides customer service.

Also, TMO office will be able to provide better inspection service to customers. The inspector will serve as a mediator at the residence between the carrier and customer. The inspector will be able to answer questions the customer may have and make sure shipping appointments run smoothly, Sergeant McNey said.

The Web site offers a library of information for members on the move, including; moving tips, counseling, privately owned vehicles, firearms and more.

"If you are coming into Shaw, you will call the toll-free number to handle your shipments," Sergeant McNey said. "The Web site is there for any questions the customer has and we are here to help as well."

The biggest changes for customers are they will not be able to receive inbound shipments, non-temporary storage and temporary storage through this office. Everything will be booked by the JPPSO, he said.

"I feel positive about the change, because it will enable us to focus more on quality control and customer service," said Mr. Rease Mims, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron traffic management officer.

For more information, Shaw members may call Sergeant McNey at 895-8601.
