Shaw members ran for turkey in the annual 5K Turkey Trot Nov. 16 at the Outdoor Recreation Center Sports Complex.

The first male and female to cross the finish line won a turkey for their Thanksgiving feast.

The winners are: Staff Sgt. Eddie Foddrill, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron, with a time of 15:38 and Staff Sgt. Jessica Feil, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron, with a time of 22:53.

During the Turkey Trot sign up, everyone predicted what they thought their finish time would be. The two runners who guessed closest received a turkey as well. They were: Master Sgt. Andy Lewis, 682nd Air Support Operations Squadron, and Senior Airman Lauren Carter, 609th Combat Operations Squadron.

Also, everyone who participated in the event received a ticket for a turkey raffle at the end of the race, said Staff Sgt. Willy Baldwin, 20th Services Squadron operations manager. Four more turkeys were given away.

"The purpose of the Turkey Trot is to promote health and fitness," said Staff Sgt. Denise Bhola, 20th SVS special events coordinator. "It is one of many events sponsored by the fitness center and it was not only for active duty members but for their families as well."

The Turkey Trot is a way for the fitness center to celebrate the upcoming holidays, promote fitness, camaraderie and espirit de corps, Sergeant Baldwin said.

Approximately 100 participated in this year's Turkey Trot.
