The 20th Fighter Wing opened a new 40,500-square-foot deployment processing center Feb. 26 during a dedication ceremony attended by Gen. T. Michael Moseley, Air Force Chief of Staff, and Gen. Gary North, 9th Air Force and U. S. Central Command Air Forces commander.

The center is called the Chandler Deployment Processing Center in honor of Archie and Anna Chandler, long-time supporters and friends to Airmen of Shaw AFB.

"The Chandlers have truly been like family to those of us in uniform. Their devotion to the men and women of Shaw has been but one hallmark of their lives," said Col. Bill Hyatt, 20th Fighter Wing commander.

The Chandlers have been actively supporting the men and women of Shaw for more than 30 years.

The Chandlers said they were thankful for the great honor of having the deployment center dedicated in their name and they have enjoyed every minute with Shaw.

The deployment center cost more than $8 million. It includes a state-of-the-art mobility bag storage system for over 10,000 bags, a mechanized weapons storage vault, indoor cargo preparation areas and a  full-service flight kitchen.

The new center replaces two buildings, combining personnel processing and mobility asset management, as well as cargo processing control functions into one facility. It also has a passenger holding area for up to 300 Airmen.
