Everyone knows Mr. John F. Kennedy, 20th Force Support Squadron school liaison and a native of Savannah, Ga., Kennedy is famous around Shaw for his duty position and angelic voice.

Kennedy has been at Shaw since 1993, and decided to retire here as a master sergeant after serving 24 years and six days in the United States Air Force.

Kennedy was inspired to join the military because he wanted to be able to afford his own schooling without having to rely on his parents, after having watched them provide for his siblings to get them through college.

After talking to different branch recruiters, he was persuaded to join the Air Force which he did not know would take him down a road to great accomplishments and recognition.

You may catch a glimpse of Kennedy as he is on his way to a retirement ceremony to sing the national anthem or helping out around the schools to ensure expectations are being met.

His duties as a school liaison are helping families discover what their options are for schools.

"I look at myself as the bridge builder between our community schools and our military community," said Kennedy.

He truly believes in himself and stays positive to make sure the job gets done.

"He is by far an outstanding advocate for the children," said Martha Robinson, 20th Force Support Squadron chief of Airman and family services flight." He not only helps the children, but also provides great support for the parents."

"Mr. Kennedy is truly amazing; he is there for not only the Shaw community, but also the High Hills and Sumter County school district community as well," says Dr. Maggy Wright, High Hills Elementary School principal.

When Kennedy is not working with the school districts he volunteers to sing during events. It all started when his supervisor asked him to sing at a ceremony because he was thought to have such a beautiful voice. This led to the beginning of his positive singing reputation here.

On multiple occasions, Mr. Kennedy has been described as a wholehearted and amazing individual with a sense of kindness and professionalism that can't be summed up in words.
