Weasel of the Week | Airman Ana Cruz Holtcamp

The Weasel of the Week series asks Team Shaw to share their experiences, Air Force spirit and personalities. We sat down with Airman Ana Cruz Holtcamp, 20th Healthcare Operations Squadron pharmacy technician, to get to know her and her job. Cruz Holtcamp is responsible for assisting the front desk, answering patient questions and filling and refilling prescriptions. Her long term goals include obtaining a bachelor’s degree in animation and/or graphic design, purchasing a home and paying off her car.

Where are you from?
I am from Kansas City, Missouri.

Why did you decide to join the Air Force?
I decided to join the Air Force because I wanted to pursue my bachelor’s degree and help my mother immigrate to the country at the same time.

How long have you been at Shaw?
I have been stationed at Shaw for four months.

What is one Air Force resource you found that is incredibly beneficial?
One Air Force resource that I found incredibly beneficial would be the Shaw library because of the help they provide with things like college credits or applying volunteer hours.

What is your favorite part of South Carolina?
My favorite part of South Carolina would be Folly Beach. The scenery is breathtaking.

What is your favorite part of your hometown?
My favorite part of my hometown is an event called “First Fridays”. On the first Friday of each month the city would block off a whole street downtown, which would be used as a space for live music and for people to sell their art.

How would you describe a normal day for you?
My general duties can be a little broad because I work in a different section every hour. However, that makes each day a little different. Much of my day is focused on filling prescriptions, but I could be doing other odd jobs like sending out faxes, responding to emails, and making sure our paper and label printer is always stocked.

What is one thing you wish people knew about your job?
One thing I wish people knew is how long the process can be to fill a prescription.

What is one word that describes how you lead?
Encouraging. I like to encourage those who are around me to keep going forward no matter how hard the obstacle gets.

What is your favorite sport? Team?
My favorite football team is the Kansas City Chiefs but my favorite sport to play is volleyball.

What is your least favorite part of your job? How do you make sure it gets done?
I would have to say paperwork. You just need to have the right mindset to stay on top of it.

What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part of the job has to be the team that I work with. They have helped me learn and strive to be the best pharmacy tech I can be.

What would you like to say to the people back home?
I would like to say to my people back home that I miss them and I want them to know that I’m okay. I want them to know that I’ll be home soon and I look forward to spending time with them.
