For those who no longer wear combat boots and a utility uniform to work each day, their sense of service often still exists. Retirees on Call is a new initiative on the rise throughout U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command.

The program gives veterans the opportunity to serve those who are currently serving. ROC is an additional outreach of the 20th FW Chapel, intended to bridge the gap between active duty service members and the retired community.

"The goal of the program is to bring veterans in the Sumter county area together, to help active duty Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines in their time of need," said South Carolina State Guard Col. William Oden, cyber security and intelligence deputy commander and ROC Shaw coordinator.

The program's objective is to provide a helping hand to active duty service members, whether it be transportation or minor home repairs.

"This is a great opportunity for our retirees to invest in our Airmen through mentor relationships," said Chaplain (Maj.) Richard Holmes, 20th Fighter Wing deputy wing chaplain.

Staying true to their motto of "serving those who serve," ROC Shaw reinforces camaraderie between military members of the past and those who currently serve.
