AbilityOne celebrated 16 years of service to Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, with an appreciation picnic, here, July 17.

"The picnic recognizes the accomplishments and contributions of workers employed under the AbilityOne program," said Tech. Sgt. Thomas Sexton, 20th Contracting Squadron contracting officer.

The federal program is the largest source of employment for people who are blind or have significant disabilities.

AbilityOne employs approximately 75 individuals within Team Shaw, at locations ranging from the Chief Master Sgt. Emmerson E. Williams Dining Facility to the post office.

To thank them for being an integral asset to the base, employees were presented with awards commending their hard work throughout the year.

Col. John Thomas, 20th Mission Support Group commander, was the event's host. He spoke of the importance of such events saying, "The vision of the AbilityOne program aligns with the Air Force Core Values of Integrity, Service, and Excellence. So, on behalf of the 20th Fighter Wing, we thank you. We are proud to partner in this unique partnership where we're realizing Congress's vision of providing the opportunity for those with disabilities to find meaningful employment."

The 20th Fighter Wing strives to create an environment of inclusion and opportunity, this partnership is one of many ways the federal government highlights the endless potential of individuals with disabilities.
