A home-buying seminar hosted by Safe Federal Credit Union and other community partners was held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center Nov. 13 and 14.

This two-part seminar was geared towards all Team Shaw service members, veterans, and their families who are in the market of buying a home now or in the future.

"Buying a home for the first time can be very stressful and complex," said Ashley Moore, Safe Federal Credit Union mortgage originator, processor, and trainer. "The purpose of the seminar is to help make sure people are comfortable, that they know the process and they're ready to purchase a home."

There are many steps to take while preparing to buy a home for the first time.

Some advice offered during the seminar included: market the home, research the environment, pick the right loan, and find the right realtor.
The two days gave Airmen insight of where to begin with a home-buying process that fits them and their families best.

"We didn't really know where to start," said Senior Airman Sean Harris, 31st Det. 1 imagery analyst. "Buying a home can be really scary with a fixed BAH (basis allowance for housing), but today really opened our eyes to see that it is affordable."

The seminar was held to give Team Shaw members a comprehensive overview of the home buying process.

The Airman and Family Readiness Center projects the home buying seminar to be held quarterly. For more information, call the A&FRC at (803) 895-1253.
