The Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce provided Team Shaw members with the 6th Annual Military Appreciation Picnic here, Sept. 26.

More than 300 Airmen and soldiers gathered in Hangar 1200 for a free lunch and to listen to thankful community members share their support.

"We just wanted to show our appreciation to Shaw for the sacrifices they make every day," said Debbie Bowen, Wilder Reality employee.

Service members visited tables where local businesses set up to provide information on their services.

"The best part of the picnic was seeing all of the positive support from the community we live in," said Airman 1st Class Chad Robertson, 20th Comptroller Squadron finance customer service technician.

Approximately 2,400 burgers and hot dogs prepared along with several other items for Airmen and soldiers to enjoy.

During the event, Col. Stephen Jost, 20th Fighter Wing commander, thanked the community for their contributions, expressing his thanks for the Sumter community and their support for the base.

"It's good to know we are appreciated for what we do," said Robertson.
