Housekeepers at the Carolina Pines Inn celebrated International Housekeeping Week here, Sept. 15-19.

International Housekeeping Week is an Air Force-wide event, held to show appreciation for the hard work housekeepers do at lodging locations. During the week, several Air Force bases provided time for housekeepers to bond and have fun with their job.

The housekeeping staff participated in morale boosting contests including a mummy wrap, tower of soap challenge, dust bunny hunt, and a bed making contest. In addition, there was a luncheon at the end of the week.

"This week has been wonderful," said Lillie Smith, Carolina Pines Inn certified guestroom attendant. "I really enjoyed the glove race, but most of all the hospitality of everyone who participated."

Not only did the housekeepers get a chance to compete against each other for prizes given at the end of the week, but Carolina Pines Inn management provided them with breakfast each morning.

Housekeepers at Carolina Pines Inn are often retired Air Force service members, or spouses of retired service members. Carolina Pines Inn currently has 28 employees in housekeeping compiled of housekeepers, building custodians, supply technicians, and maintenance workers for 132 rooms.

"This event gets better every year," said Valerie Bernier, Carolina Pines Inn certified housekeeping manager. "The workers have been doing an outstanding job taking care of the customers and deserve this week to be shown how much they are appreciated for all their efforts."
