The intramural softball season ended as the 20th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department battled it out with the 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron in the championship game here, Sept. 2, 2014.

After several innings, the 20th CES Fire Department defeated the 20th AMXS with a final score of 5-4.

"Our team played very well," said Senior Airman Whitney Dodson, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter. "Our philosophy was to have everyone on the team play and have fun."

Even though several players on the 20th CES Fire Department team were on the job while on the field, they still managed to knock out the win.

"The FD had a unique situation where half of the team was on shift," said Dodson. "We got several calls [throughout the season] and without everyone showing up we would have had to forfeit."

Though only one team could win, both played their best for the championship.

"Our team played very well and fought hard to keep the game close," said Airman 1st Class Blake Lewis, 20th AMXS avionic intergraded systems technician. "It was a match against the fire department's power hitters versus our team's overall base hitting ability."

Although it was just the icing on the cake, winning increased the overall morale of the fire department, said Dodson.
