The 20th Force Support Squadron held the Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina 2014 Freedom Bash here, July 3 at the Woodland Pool.

The annual event gave the community a chance to show their appreciation to service members on base.

"We really do love everything service members do for us," said Tim Godwin, 20th FSS outdoor recreation center director. "This is our chance to say 'thank you'."

Hundreds of Team Shaw members showed up to enjoy live music, pool games, a rib cook-off, hamburgers and hot dogs, and a 5K walk/run.

"We have partners from the local community who help out and donate goods to help support the event," said Chief Master Sgt. Michael Joseph, 20th FSS superintendant. "It's awesome to have everyone get together like this. It allows us military members to get a chance to kick back and relax."

The Freedom Bash was free for all military and civilian identification-card holders and their families.

"These are tough times in our military right now," said Lt. Col. Tara White, 20th FSS commander. "So it is awesome that we are able to pause for an afternoon and celebrate America's independence with a fun and enjoyable day."
