'Sharp edge' Airmen receive recognition Published June 3, 2014 By Senior Airman Ashley L. Gardner 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The First Sergeants of the Shaw Diamond Council recently established the Diamond Sharp Award to formally recognize joint service members for excellence in the ranks of E-1 through E-6 and their civilian counterparts. The first sergeants want to show Airmen that we aren't just here for disciplinary action, said Master Sgt. Rhonda Roman, 20th Component Maintenance Squadron first sergeant. This award is reserved for those who present exemplary hard work and go above and beyond their everyday task and responsibilities, she added. The new award will be presented to two service members every month along with a coin and a certificate. Members are chosen for nomination by his or her respective first sergeant. The nomination can be for a specific achievement or sustained excellence. "I was surprised to receive the award," said Airman 1st Class Tevin Young, 20th Component Maintenance Squadron aircraft fuel systems journeyman. "I just try to stay busy at work and jump on any job that comes up, it makes the day go by faster and I'm always willing to learn something new. I think it is great that the first sergeants council is recognizing individuals for their work efforts."
