Airmen run to raise SAPR awareness

Team Shaw Sexual Assault Prevention and Response office hosted a 5K run here, May 2.

Sexual Assault Prevention month helps raise awareness of sexual assault.

"The run is held to show solidarity for victims of sexual assault," said Nichols. "as well as to show that Team Shaw won't stand for it."

Approximately 837 people registered to participate in the run.

"Sexual assault and sexual harassment has really changed our culture," said Brigadier General Rex Spitler, 3rd Army chief of staff. "People have tried to hide it behind closed doors, but that will no longer happen. It will stop."

The top three males were U.S. Army Capt. Nick Taran, U.S. Army Central deputy operations officer , Maj. Ken Cobb, Air Forces Central Command intelligence weapons and tactics officer, and Staff Sgt. Filipe Hernandez, 20th Equipment Maintenance Squadron munitions inspector.

The top three females were 2nd Lt. Micah Wessinger, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron materials management flight commander, Staff Sgt. Arana Kahn, 20th EMS munitions inspector , and Senior Airman Molly Elder, 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs broadcast journalist.

The event raised more than 1,000 pounds of donated home goods.
