With intramural softball season just a swing away, Airmen around base are preparing to hit the field.

The season will start around June 9 with approximately 18 to 20 teams participating this year.

Last season's champions, the 20th Equipment Maintenance Squadron munitions flight, finished with 14 wins and zero losses.

"Team sports help build character because they teach people discipline and how to work together to reach a common goal," said Master Sgt. Andre Percell, 20th Comptroller Squadron financial services flight chief and the wing staff agency softball team coach. "Airmen learn how to have good sportsmanship whether you win or lose."

Sports are a good way to relieve stress and build fellowship said Charles Glover, 20th Force Support Squadron fitness and sports director.

"I play as a form of exercise," said Percell. "As well as to be able to interact with other people outside of work, I also love competition."

Flag football will follow softball season which will begin in September.

If Airmen want to play intramural sports they should contact their sports representative or their first sergeant for more information.
