The 20th Medical Group recognized the men and women of the Biomedical Sciences Corps by celebrating BSC appreciation week here, Jan. 27 to 31.

The BSC was formed almost 50 years ago on March 15, 1965. It is comprised of 19 Air Force Specialty Codes including approximately 2,300 officers throughout the Air Force, 25 of which are stationed at Shaw. BSC officers provide specialty health care services such as optometry, public health, physical therapy and clinical psychology.

"I think what is unique about the BSC is how diverse it is," said Capt. Ryan Landoll, 20th Medical Operations Squadron chief of mental health. "It's nice to have a week to all come together and spend some time with each other since we don't often get to work alongside one another."

Throughout the week the BSC enjoyed coffee, doughnuts, bowling and received candy from Lt. Col. David Walmsley, 20th Medical Support Squadron commander, and Capt. Lateasa Reed, 20th MDOS clinical social worker.

"Even though it's doughnuts and candy," said 1st Lt. Christina Stabile, 20th Medical Group chief of the mental health clinic, "with as busy as we all are, BSC appreciation week is very important because it boosts morale."

During the week, the BSC officers and the technicians and civilians who support them took time to gather for fellowship and to discuss current issues within the BSC.

"We have a great BSC team here and [they] all do a great job," said Col. Curt Prichard, 20th MDG commander.
