Seeking higher education: 325 earn degrees

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. --  Airmen who completed all requirements for a Community College of the Air Force degree were recognized here Nov. 14, during the annual CCAF graduation ceremony.

A total of 325 Shaw Airmen earned degrees in 2013, 61 of whom received formal recognition during the ceremony.

"The CCAF degree provides Airmen a foundation, not only towards gaining a higher degree, but for their Air Force career," said Master Sgt. Lindsey Wolf, 20th Force Support Squadron Airman leadership school commandant. "This is a huge milestone and one
that they should be proud to achieve."

This event recognizes the achievements of active-duty enlisted members who have completed specific requirements and been awarded the CCAF degree for their career field.

With two award periods in 2013, April and October, 20,661 degrees have been awarded across the Air Force.

"There was a great turnout for the ceremony," said Master Sgt. Damaris Quintiliani, 20th Force Support Squadron career assistant advisor. "These Airmen have sacrificed and worked very hard for their degree. They deserve to be recognized, out front, loud and proud for their accomplishment. Some of our graduates are the first in their family to receive a degree of any kind, so this ceremony is a big deal for many of them. This graduation ceremony is also an opportunity to provide motivation to the graduates and attendees to continue their education and achieve things they never thought possible."

During the ceremony, graduates received guidance from Master Sgt. Angela Marcoux, 31st Intelligence Squadron, Detachment 1 imagery support element chief.

"I used the acronym T-B-D to help remember the main points: Time, Balance, and Dedication," said Marcoux. "Everyone with proper time management, balance, and dedication can achieve higher education. Using your time wisely and balancing the many competing issues affecting your life will only work if you dedicate yourself to your goals. Your CCAF is the foundation of your education, a tactical degree used for furthering your strategic career now and in the future."

The first CCAF graduation was held at Shaw in 1971. Now CCAF graduations are held at almost every Air Force base annually.
