About 57 Shaw Airmen, Soldiers, Department of Defense employees and dependents were placed in hand cuffs and put behind bars here, Sept. 26, to support the 20th Security Forces Squadron's Defenders Association Jail and Bail fundraiser.

"The objective of Jail and Bail was to pay to have individuals placed in 'jail' under a specific sentencing, such as not bringing the office breakfast or having no social skills," said Staff Sgt. Melissa McCammon, 20th SFS operations NCO and judge of Jail and Bail. "The jail was located in an open store in front of the Base Exchange for everyone to see."

Team Shaw members were able to contact McCammon to have people at Shaw AFB cuffed and put behind bars. Members could have one or multiple people "arrested" and serve time in increments of 15 minutes for $15, 30 minutes for $25, or 45 minutes for $35.

"The jailed individuals were able to post bail bond for the amount paid to have them put them in, plus $10 to prevent sitting in fail," said McCammon.

The money raised during the Jail and Bail is going towards 20th SFS sponsored events.

"The overall turnout was great! We raised $1,464 and everyone who participated enjoyed it," began McCammon. "The arresting officers said the best part was seeing some of the faces and reactions while being arrested."

"My immediate reaction was 'who set me up!'," said Col. Scott Arcuri, 20th Mission Support Group commander. "But you can't fight the law, so I did my time. It was all in good fun, and I was glad to help our hardworking defenders with their fundraiser."

If anyone missed out on the Jail and Bail, 20th SFS plans on holding the fundraiser twice a year.
