The 20th Mission Support Group held a Warrior Challenge here Sept. 6, to boost and improve the morale and camaraderie of the Airmen and Soldiers who participated.

Approximately 300 Soldiers, Airmen and civilians come out to join in the festivities.

The 20th MSG Warrior Challenge consisted of a physical training challenge, a watermelon eating contest, a wing cook-off, and other events to build camaraderie throughout the ranks

"Today is our physical fitness day," said Senior Airman Scott Cole, 20th Communications Squadron project manager. "It's bringing us closer. I'm getting to see other groups from the communications squadron, I get to communicate with those folks and cheer them on and share experiences from the communication squadron. We're all coming together for this, so we're just like one big family out here. I've been at Shaw since 2009 and this is the best fitness day I've had. We have the whole tailgating thing going on. It's a real morale booster."

The activities created not only a bond between units, but also some competition between the sister services on base (Air Force and Army).

"The Army and the Air Force, well actually everybody, is out here just to have a good time and relax," said Army Master Sgt. Tami Reeder, U.S. Army Central/Third Army intelligence operations NCO in charge. "This is a time we get to play games with our fellow brethren on the other side of post, so it's a great day for bonding and team work."

"If there's one thing the military does right, it's great competition and camaraderie," said Airman 1st Class Josiah McDonald, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron personal property counselor. "This is pretty much how I sum up the MSG warrior challenge. It got a little heated on some of the games, but that's normal, especially if each team is doing their best to represent their squadron. Overall, I thought it was a lot of fun and it was nice to see the people you work with in a different light. It was a great way to show pride, friendly competition and great fellowship."
