On Aug. 16, Janine Reinholtz, Health and Wellness Center registered dietician, visited the commissary here to help shoppers make healthier purchases.

Reinholtz provided "grocery cart guidance" to shoppers through scheduled appointments. Shoppers were encouraged to bring their grocery lists and weekly menus or ask any questions they had.

"I do this so I can have any member or dependent take a tour of the commissary with me," said Reinholtz. "I will also go throughout the sections with them on their most frequented visited aisles and discuss the foods."

This is the first shopper education program the HAWC has offered Team Shaw members.

"I've been switching up my diet, trying to eat healthier and better," said 1st Lt. Pherris Ashby, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle flight commander. "I confirmed a lot of things that I knew were good, and cleared a lot of things that I had questions on."

Tips that were suggested by Reinholtz include going between specific sections of the store rather than through each aisle. In addition, purchase as many colorful fruits and vegetables as possible while keeping in mind to look for lean meats and low-fat dairy products.

"Nutrition is important to every single Airman because their fitness will not be as strong if they do not eat healthier," said Reinholtz. "Nutrition is so integral to their health; it prevents disease and allows them to perform well at their job, PT test and even in deployed locations."
