Team Shaw links hearts Published Aug. 6, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Daniel Blackwell 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Team Shaw leadership is slated to host a free Heart Link spouse orientation class Aug. 13, at the Carolina Skies Club and Conference Center here. The course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided. The Heart Link program is free to attend, made possible through funding from the Air Force Aide Society which was established and adopted by Air Combat Command in 2002. The program serves to standardize spouse orientation programs and strengthen military families by increasing spouse awareness of the Air Force mission as well as available resources and services, explained Esperanza Romero, 20th Force Support Squadron community readiness specialist. The program features briefings, informative games and activities. Spouses are greeted and briefed by Team Shaw leaders from various organizations so they know who they can talk to if problems should arise. There will also be key spouses present to help answer any questions that may not be covered in the briefings. This includes what the key spouse club does, where entertainment in the Sumter area can be found and personal experiences from spouses who have spent a number of years with the military, Romero said. "Some people build lasting friendship from these meetings," Romero explained. "It really is a great program." The program is held quarterly.
