The U.S. Air Force Precision Flying Demonstration Team – The Thunderbirds – touched down on the Shaw Air Force Base flightline May 17.

The Thunderbirds have come to Shaw to participate in the 2016 Shaw Air Expo and open house, “Thunder Over the Midlands,” a free air show scheduled for May 21-22.

“We’re going to be doing an F-16 demonstration that shows you not only what our pilots, maintainers and logistics folks are capable of producing, but also some extremely close formation flying,” said Maj. Alexander Turner, U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds opposing solo pilot. “We’re going to show you what this F-16 can do. We’re going to show you a range of maneuvers that are hopefully exciting and inspiring.”

Gates are scheduled to open for the general public at 8 a.m. both days of the show, which is scheduled to continue even in the event of inclement weather.

“If you come to the air show, you can expect to see a demonstration of the pride, professionalism and precision of our United States Air Force Airmen,” said Turner.
