Team Shaw, Sumter PD conduct random sweep Published July 12, 2016 By 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Team Shaw officials and Sumter law enforcement personnel worked together to conduct a 100 percent safety and security sweep on all vehicles entering the installation May 6-7.The sweep was a joint effort between the City of Sumter Police Department Narcotics Unit, the 20th Security Forces Squadron, and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 212.During the inspection, all military members were subject to drug testing via urinalysis. The operation resulted in one positive drug test and confiscation of drugs and paraphernalia in one other vehicle. In addition, the sweep resulted in one violation for open container of alcohol and one violation for bringing an unauthorized weapon onto the installation. The individuals who violated open container and unauthorized weapon laws were issued citations. There are currently open investigations on both the individual who tested positive for drug use and the individual found in possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
