Col. Daniel Lasica took command of the 20th Fighter Wing from Col. Stephen Jost during a change of command ceremony presided over by Maj. Gen. Scott Zobrist, 9th Air Force commander, in Hangar 1200 here, Aug. 19.

Jost, who assumed command in 2014, led the wing through two Unit Effectiveness Inspections, numerous operational readiness exercises, and introduced Team Shaw to his new campaign “Airman Up!” which focuses on empowering Airmen, with the help of their supervisors, to take responsibility for their personal improvement.

“Thank you Airmen of the 20th Fighter Wing for your hard work and dedication over the past 26 months of my command,” said Jost. “I sincerely appreciate everything you do for our Air Force and our nation and I will forever be indebted.”

As commander of the 20th FW, Lasica will lead the Air Force’s largest F-16CM Fighting Falcon combat wing in its mission to maintain readiness to deploy and employ combat forces in support of operational wartime requirements worldwide.

Lasica, a command pilot with more than 3,800 flight hours, previously served as the Current Operations Division Chief and Chief of Operations at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

“I am very excited to be here at Shaw and in the local Sumter community,” said Lasica. “It’s an absolute honor and privilege to be here today and to lead the men and women of the 20th Fighter Wing.”

Lasica will assume responsibility for an 18-squadron wing including three F-16 squadrons and more than 7,000 personnel.
